Our Journey to Nulato

While attending Alaska Bible College (2002-2006) we became active in praying for villages across Alaska and our hearts were drawn specifically towards western Alaska. Over the years, we have gone through various classes with SEND and lived in several places throughout Alaska. We knew God wanted us in Alaska but didn’t know where.

Our first term (2009-2012) was an internship program; we lived in the communities of Tok and Aniak.

Our second term started in Galena (2014) which allowed us to get to know the Yukon-Koyukuk region. As we visited Nulato (60 miles downriver) people began asking us to move there. After the Nulato fire (2015) we knew God was opening doors for us. Nulato warmly welcomed our whole family and took pride in introducing us to theirs. Of the Yukon-Koyukuk region, Nulato primarily has family in Kaltag and Koyukuk. We are honored God has place us in Nulato and that we can minister to all three villages.

Our focus has been to first be good listeners and learners. Our second focus has been to be patient rather than trying to make Christian programs happen. As a result, we believe  we have built genuine relationships where we can be an encouragement and stand alongside our neighbors during life’s ups and downs.

Our hope is to live long term in Nulato and always point to the hope and life that can be enjoyed through Jesus.
